TCSA Queer Commissioner Report:

MEET ANNETTE

I'm excited to have the privilege to run for President of the TCSA for the 2017-2018 year. Thank you for taking the time to visit and learn more about myself and the amazing campaign team I have.

I began my undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa, in International Development and Globalization.  Through involvement with Idle No More, I learned about the role of the Canadian Government in the colonization of Indigenous peoples. This inspired me to come to Trent for a degree in Indigenous Studies and Politics.

Throughout my time at Trent, I have had the privilege of getting involved in many different activities and capacities.  In my first full academic year, I fulfilled my elementary school dream, and played for the varsity women's volleyball team.  At 5'4 I wasn't the best, or the tallest, but was always enthusiastic, and ended the year as the MVC (Most Valuable Cheerer). My time as a varsity athlete taught me about the value of strong support for athletes, as representatives of Trent across the province.

After leaving the volleyball team, I joined the board of Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG). OPIRG solidified my passion for social and environmental activism, and through it Ideveloped a strong appreciation for the levy system at Trent. At OPIRG I had the opportunity to host my first of three radio shows on Trent Radio - yay Trent Radio!

In the past year, I have represented Queer students as Queer Commissioner of the TCSA. As Queer Commissioner, I had the chance to learn about the importance of student governance and the impacts of it. For more information about my time as Queer Commissioner, my full report, as prepared for the TCSA Annual General Meeting, is available through the link in the side bar of this page.

The 2016-2017 school year has also presented me the exciting challenge of becoming a Co-President of Traill College.  My time at Traill has given me the opportunity to develop my love of the collegiate system. As TCSA President, I will continue to lobby for strong administration investment in the historic downtown college, and will make preservation of college autonomy a top priority.

Thank you again for taking the time to get to know a bit more about me. If you have any questions or concerns please use the message board to contact me, and I will answer as soon as possible.
